Capt. William "Robert" MASSICOT was born about 1776 in France.  We are told through various Family Descendant Charts¹ that he was a Captain of ship, and that he was also a French Privateer². William married Catherine Eugenia BLANCON about 1813 most probably in Maryland. He died on 20 May 1847³.  His funeral was held at his late residence on Albermarle Street^{18, 17}, and he was buried in Area G, Lot 10 in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore Md.

BIOGRAPHY:
It is said within the family that Captain William either was a founder of a church or made substantial contributions to the purchase of the land on which the original Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic church was built.  According to a souvenir book published for the years 1792-1942 titled "Sesquicentennnial Saint Patrick's Parish."  Loacated at the Maryland Historical Society many French immigrants came to Fells Point to avoid the French Revolutions.  The first church {was} stated in 1792 in a garret on Bond & Fleet Streets.  In 1793 the second church opened in a home on Thames Street, and the third opened in 1796."  Cousin Kathryn writes.  Another family story places Captian William's anchor at this church.  When I discussed this in open forum, I was told that no "Layperson" would have been a 'founder' of a Roman Catholic church (however it still may be possible that he made contributions to the purchase of these lands.), it was suggested that I also look into a church called the 'Seamans' Church'.  By the time of his death in 1847 his occupation was a shipwright, quite possibly in the local shipyards.

Catherine Eugenia BLANCON was born about 1793 in France, and died on 12 March 1880⁴, and was buried after 12 Mar 1880 in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland.  A Reqrium Mass was offered at St. Vincents church.
