The Shannon family left Ireland in the 1750s and eventually settled in Tennessee. Robert Shannon and two of his brothers left Bedford County in 1851 and headed west. One brother went on to Texas, another ended up in Mississippi, and Robert settled in Izard County, Arkansas.
