DATES:

Up until the year 1752 England used what was known as the Julian calendar, whereby each year began on the 25 March, Lady Day and ended on the 24 March. On the 13 September 1752 this was changed to the Gregorian calendar when the year began on 1 January and ended on the 31 December.

The entries in the Parish Registers when the Julian calendar was in use can be confusing because a child born in say December 1750 could be baptised in January 1750.

To overcome this confusion entries in the Registers for the months of January, February and March before 1752 are shown with both dates, as 1750/51. The first date is the old Julian date and the second date is the new Gregorian date.
