James Francis Trefzger
1932 -

Jim was born on 1/31/1932 in Cincinnati, OH. Jim married Judy Erlyn Nohr on 6/12/1954.

Our second son Jim was born at Deaconess Hospital on January 30, 1932 by Dr. H. Springer.

He was just a few months old when we moved to Westwood. Jimmy was active, awaking quite early. He couldnt be kacihed with a bottle or toy like Jerry. We would put him in bed with us to keep him quiet but in about five minutes we always ended by getting dressed and up for the day. At about a year and a half he would stand up in his crib and grab the side and shake it so hard, making a terrible noise. He was into everything eating Nannas pills, drinking nail polish, just name it, Jim was into it.

One time I had the table set for dinner, when Jim pulled the tablecloth and all the dishes fell to the floor.

Jim was interested in athletics and played at the Deer Creek Commons (a recreational area at Florence and Reading Road). The only way Jims team could be identified was that they played stocking-footed. They couldnt afford gym shoes. For baseball they went barefooted or no shirts.

Jim was at Elder High School swimming on Paul Hartlaubs team, becommming State breast-stroke champion in his junior year, playing quarterback on the high school football team for 2 years and center fielder on Elder's baseball team."

"The Summer of 1948 Jim played on the Budde Post Americon Legion team. (Their team was runner-up in the nation.)Jim was a home run hitter.

"We drove to Columbus, OH to see Jim play for the state championship. They won. We returned home and drove to Rochester, MN for the sectional championship. They won. We drove to Bloomington, IL for the regional championship. They won. The finals for the naitional championship wa at Omaha, NB. They lost to Oakland, CA."

The New York Yankee's wanted to sign Jim that August. They offered Jim a bonus of $25,000 but Jim wanted to get his college degree before he played professional baseball.

"In June 1954 Jim graduated from U.C., married, signed with the Reds and went to play profesional baseball out of Ogden, Utah for four months. He and Judy returned to Cincinnati and he was drafted into the Army and after Ft. Knox, he was stationed at Camp Chaffee, Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

At Camp Chaffee Jim taught Gunnery, firing artelery, primarely cannons. He also played baseball on the Camp team.

Lou Anne, Jim and Judy's first child, was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

After Jim was discharged from the Army and he and his family moved back to Cincinnati Jim started working full time with Trefzgers and they bought a small home in a subdivision off Pippen Road. On 8/1/1967 Jim bought 3450 Chiviot Avenue (the Fred and Tillie Trefzger homestead) from the Lillie E. Heinzman Trust for $17,500.

Jim was an excellent salesman. He was also responsible for getting Trefzgers best lines: Huega carpet squares, Forms + Surfaces, and Permagrain flooring.

Jim and Judy had 5 children in Cincinnati: Scot, Toni, Barb, Kurt and Lisa.

Jim and Judy lived at 3450 Cheviot Avenue until he retired from Trefzgers. He sold the house to his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Pat Evans. Jim and Judy moved to Florida.

Judy died on March 30, 2010 after battling cancer for about 6 months.

In the spring of 2011 The Enquirer printed a special report on the "Top 100 local boys' multisport athletes". Jim was chosen as # 87.
