Dennett Families: New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Beyondby Robert F. Delaney July 2009 In June 2009 my research veered off to the Dennett line when my cousin Carol Lowery Delaney sent me an e-mail in which she mentioned the death of her former mother in-law, Elizabeth (Eaton) Bangs. It was through Elizabeth (Eaton) Bang's obituary, as well as some other research I did at the time, that I became aware of the Dennett family history and the connection to the Delaney lineage. The bloodline connection to the Delaney family is through Carol Lowery Delaney's daugther, Elizabeth Lowery (Bangs) Quaratiello. Carol Lowery Delaney was married to David Hinckley Bangs, Jr., the son of Elizabeth (Eaton) Bangs and David Hinckley Bangs. Elizabeth Lowery (Bangs) Quaratiello's paternal grandmother was Elizabeth (Eaton) Bangs, a descendent in the Dennett line through her mother, Eunice Alice Dennett. Eunice Dennett married Clarence Walton Eaton, resulting in a connection between those two lines. The information presented here about the Dennett family is sparse at this time, and I hope to return to fill in the story as time allows me to conduct more research in this area. For the moment, I have presented just a few pieces of the famiy history in order to connect the dots between the Dennett and Delaney families. This page is the cornerstone upon which the Dennett story will be developed, and it is a repository for bits of information as they become available. An interesting source of information about the Dennett family in New Hamphire and Massachusetts is contained in a couple of pages extracted from an early 20th century book about families in Boston and Eastern Massachusetts.1 I have not yet done the research to unearth other sources to corroborate the data presented in that book, but it does provide a good starting point for individuals interested in this Dennett family of New England. The North American roots of this particular Dennett line appear to be linked to the arrival of brothers John and Alexander Dennett in Portsmouth, New Hamsphire between 1660 and 1670. A summary of the Dennett family line, as well as allied lines, is presented in the index below. This is a preliminary and very partial listing because I have relied mostly on the book mentioned above and have done relatively little independent research at this point in time. 1 William Richard Cutter, Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts, Lewis Historical Publishing Company, New York, 1908, Volume IV, pp. 2027-2028.
Index to Dennett Families & Allied Lines Marriage of female members of a Dennett-surnamed family results, of course, in a branching and continuation of the Dennett lineage through the allied surnames. Readers interested pursuing the Dennett lineage through the allied lines can do so via the links (very few of which are active at the moment) in the "Allied Line" column or the "Children" column of this table. Allied surname stories and information can also be reached from the Surnames Index. Additional research will certainly produce generations in the Dennett line beyond the 8th generation currently shown in this table.
