THE TUDOR FAMILY
There are strong Welsh links on my mother`s side of the family.
My mother, Laura Dilys Jones was born to Thomas Richard Jones and Hannah Jane Tudor. Both Thomas and Hannah were born in Lancashire but their parents were born in Wales.
Hannah Jane was born in Ditton, Lancs. on 4th March 1875. She was the 5th child of 7 born to Hugh Tudor and Jane Jones. Her siblings were:
Hugh Thomas b. 21 July 1866 Widnes, Lancs. d. 23 January 1908. Hugh married Mary Elizabeth Atkinson 24 August 1899 at the Parish Church in the Parish of Christchurch, Kensington, Liverpool. Hugh was a widower, (having married Dinah Jackson in 1897 - Dinah died later that year) age 32 and a joiner, living at 26 Adelaide Road, and his father was Hugh Tudor a grocer. Mary Elizabeth Atkinson was a spinster age 25, living at 6 Greenheyes Road and her father was John Atkinson a farmer. The witnesses were Samuel Anwyl Tudor and Ann Elizabeth Tudor. Mary Elizabeth Atkinson was born at Cliburn, Westmorland 6 February 1874.
As one can see, Hugh Thomas died in 1908, leaving Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) with 5 children, the oldest not quite 8 and the youngest only 7 months. The following information has been given to me by descendants of Lizzie`s sister Isabella who married a Middleton. The children 1. John Hugh, b. 11 May 1900 Liverpool d. 27 January 1992 Kelowna, B.C. Canada, married Alexina Mary Pratt 19 September 1928. 2. Gladys, b. 25 July 1901 Liverpool d. 4 November 1989 Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, married Minto Hughes 23 June 1926. Minto died 1991, Alberta. 3. Evelyn b. 2 October 1903 Liverpool, d. August 1914 Liverpool. 4. Winifred (Winnie) b. 3 July 1905 West Derby, Liverpool d. 17 March 1997 Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, married Percy Lorne Pender 18 June 1924, and 5. Alfred Thomas b. 15 June 1907 Liverpool d. 23 January 1996 Calgary, Alberta, Canada, married Madelaine Dick 18 October 1933.
I personally remember Gladys and Minto and Winnie as I stayed with them on a trip back in 1974. My mother had always kept in touch with her first cousins and I have continued to keep the ties with my Canadian relatives.
Lizzie managed to cope financially and provide for her family by doing a lot of sewing and knitting to keep them clothed, but also had income from rent from houses that her husband had built and owned. Gladys and Winnie remember going to Garston to help their mother collect rents. Also Lizzie`s brother George lived with them and he worked on the Liverpool tramways and tended the garden. Two of Lizzie`s brothers emigrated to Canada and eventually all her family, including her sister Isabella (who married Middleton), were there so she followed in 1920 with her 4 surviving children, along with her brother George. Rumour has it that Lizzie might have emigrated sooner but for the fact that her houses were not sold until after the war. So this information confirms the link between the Tudor and Middleton families.
There are numerous descendants of these families.

John Richard b. 15 July 1868 Widnes, Lancs. married Hannah Elizabeth Brown 1898 in Walsall, in the Midlands. They had 2 children Dorothy May b. 15 April 1900 and Cecil Wynne b. 1 July 1905 in Garston, Lancs.
Samuel Anwyl b. 27 October 1872 Widnes, Lancs. d. 1966 Wrexham, N. Wales married Edith Bell 8 August 1900 in Liverpool. Edith died 1974 Wrexham. They had 2 children, Arthur b. 1901, Lilian b. 1904
Hannah Jane
Ann Elizabeth b. 16 February 1877 in Ditton, Lancs. d. 1961 in Liverpool. I remember her vaguely as 'Aunt Nan'.
Llewellyn Wynne b. 25 October 1878 in Garston, Lancs. d. 16 June 1915 in Liverpool.
Hannah`s parents were:
Hugh Tudor and Jane Jones
Hugh was the eldest of 4 siblings, having 3 younger sisters. Hugh was born 1839 in Bwlch Esgelltyn, Nr Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, Wales. He married Jane Jones 28 June 1864 at St Bride`s Church in Liverpool and the witnesses were Hugh Tudor and Jane Jones! Hugh was a Draper and living at Mill St. Toxteth and his father Hugh Tudor was a Miner. Jane was living at Rodney St. Liverpool and her father was Thos. Jones (deceased) a Tea Dealer. His younger sisters were:
Mary (b. 1842 Darowen, Montgomery)
Ann (b. 1844 Penegoes, Montgomery)
Jane (b. 1850 Penegoes, Montgomery)
In 1841 Hugh (age 2) and his parents Hugh (lead miner) and Anne are living in Penyfordgery(?) in Darowen. In 1851 I cannot find Hugh but his parents and sisters are now in Camderffordd, Penegoes - father Hugh is 36 and born in Penegoes, mother Anne is 34 and born in Machynlleth, Mary age 9 born Darowen, Ann and Jane (7 and 1) born in Penegoes. In 1861 and 71 they are in Machynlleth. Hugh died aged 74 in 1914 in West Derby. Jane died in 1907.
HUGH TUDOR AND ANN HUGHES
Hugh and Ann were married 17 August 1838 at Penegoes Parish Church. Hugh was born 1814 in Penegoes. His siblings were:

Elizabeth b. 1817 d. 1819.

OWEN TUDOR AND MARY ASHTON
Owen born about 1783 - died 1841 Penfford Bengam, Montgomeryshire. Owen appears on the 1841 census age 55 and a farmer at Camderffordd with Ann age 50 and Richard age 17 and a shepherd. It is believed that this Ann was Owen`s second wife and Richard was her son. In Owen`s Will dated 11th April 1840 he bequeaths £22 to his wife Ann together with one cow and all the stables and beds between her and son Richt. Also some money to Richat (can`t read the amount) when he comes of age (21), also some livestock and the spice box. Owen makes 'my much beloved son Hugh Tudor' his executor and leaves him his land.
