John Philbrick was baptized 1 Oct 1616 at Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England. (1) He probably came to Hampton, NH in the early 1630's.   He married Anne Knapp about 1648 as their first child was born in 1650.  We know her name was Anne Knapp from the estate distribution of her father, William Knapp. In that record the estate was being distributed to "the children of John Philbrick deceased, being the grandchildren of the said William Knap."(2)
John Philbrick and his wife Anne had six children.  On Aug. 20, 1657, he and his wife and daughter, Sarah, were drowned as they were going out from Hampton river on their way to Boston.  (3) Seven people drowned on that trip and at least two of them were children. (4)  The surviving children of John and Ann Philbrick were also probably onboard at that time.  Their youngest child, Ephraim Phibrick, was only one year old as he was born 24 Apr 1656.
