MY HOBBIES

I am fortunate in the fact that I have greatly enjoyed the two great careers which I have been involved with, and both have given me great interest and satisfaction.

Firstly, my career in the Royal Navy, in which I served 11 years, I joined in June 1963 and left in April 1974.  I am still very interested in the Royal Navy and have a collection of over 10,000 digital images of Royal Navy ships and submarines, going back to the sailing age.   If you have a photo of any Royal Navy, RFA or RMAS vessel, I will be grateful for a scanned copy (a 1024 pixel wide jpeg image if possible, which you can email to me at [email protected]).

After leaving the Royal Navy, I embarked on a second career in the Fire Service, in which I served for 28 years, I joined in April 1974 and retired in April 2002.

Since my retirement I have become increasingly involved in trying to trace my family roots.   Whilst I know that my great great great grandfather Robert Bryce, together with a whole generation of his family came from Scotland to live and work in the North East of England in the mid 19th Century.  I do not know from which town or city they came from.   It is understood that they arrived in Sunderland in the late 19th Century to work in the shipyards in the area.   I do not know at this time whether Robert had any brothers or sisters or the name of their father.   The hunt is on ............

My other interests include local history and I am a member of Southwick History And Preservation Society (SHAPS).
