The season of emigration is now fairly open and thousands have already arrived from the old country in the United States and thousands are now on their way. Nearly all of them will come West to find a home. � Quite a number has arrived in New Holstien in this county. We therefore wish to speak of a few of the advantages to be derived by emigrants and others by settling in the County of Calumet, as we believe there is no county in Wisconsin that can offer greater inducements to emigrants than ours, and there will never be a better time to buy the foundation of a good farm at a low price, than the present season. Every part of the county is now opened by roads leading to good markets, and the farmer can take his produce to Fond du Lac Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Island City, Appleton or Green Bay just as he chooses. In fact there is no county in the State which has so many markets close around it.

Our land is all of a deep, vegetable mold which will make the most desireable and productive farms. No better water can be found in the State � our clear, sparkling streams which come to the surface, have long been the admiration of the traveler. We have no prairies, but we have as splendid hard wood forests, consisting of every variety of Oak, Maple, Elm, Butternut, Cherry and Basswood, as the sun looks down upon in his day�s journey, and owing to the numerous mills and manufactories which surround us, almost every tree is valuable. Our population is over ten thousand and a more prosperous, thrifty and contented class of farmers cannot be found in the West. In a few years, at the farthest, a rail road will be running directly through the county from Milwaukee to the Fox River, and we confidently believe that the Manitowoc and Menasha Railroad, which runs through some of our Northern towns will be completed in a short time, affording additional facilities to our farmers to carry their produce to market. We therefore advise all who wish to get a profitable and comfortable home to come and see the most fertile county in Wisconsin.
