(2021) Some time in the past I had sent to Kansas for James and Helen's marriage record. I knew they married about 1922 and that they were living in Arkansas City, Cowley County, Kansas. Kansas started requiring that marriages be recorded in 1913. so I thought this would be an easy task. Ha! They said it didn't exist! Well this just turned up in a new database: an article/column in the 'County Democrat-News' for Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma, on 'Marriage Licenses for the past week' dated Thursday, 24 August 1922. It lists: 'James Green, 25, and Helen Irene Jackson, 19, both of Arkansas City'. So no wonder I couldn't find the record in Kansas! They filed in Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma! So now I need to dig around there. Of course, I still don't know when and where the actual ceremony took place. I have found her index card for the 1905 Iowa State Census, but I don't have a link to an actual census image...yet. More information can be found on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch, and FindAGrave memorial pages. I knew my great-grandmother personally and I now wish that I had asked her more questions!! Isn't that always the way. But I really didn't know back then what I would need to document. |
