     Gertrude Prescott was born on 22 August 1903 in Iowa.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of Fred Prescott and Mary Vanderford.² Gertrude married Carl Lionel Millslagle, son of Peter Andrew Millslagle and Hester Elizabeth Quiggle, on 2 December 1925 in Conrad, Grundy County, Iowa. He was 38 and she was 22.^4,5 Gertrude and Carl had 4 children. These children are Robert Prescott, William Andrew, Darrell Rae and Dean Lawrence.⁴
          Carl, age 42, and Gertrude, age 26, were enumerated on the 1930 Federal Census in Polk City, Polk County, Iowa. Also enumerated in this household was their son, Robert, age 1 year and 11 months. They rent their house for $25 monthly. Carl is not a military veteran.⁶ Follow the link to see the census image.
          Gertrude, with her children, joined Carl in Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California in 1943.⁴ Gertrude worked as a nurse "on and off" from 1948 - 1965.⁴ In 1952, Gertrude and Carl moved back to Iowa.⁴ Carl died on 21 December 1953, leaving Gertrude a widow.^7,8 Gertrude worked as a manager of a mobile home park in 1965 in Santa Cruz.⁴

          Gertrude died 17 December 1982 in Santa Cruz County, California.^1,2 She was 79 years old. Her Social Security Number was 556-38-1876 and was issued in California.^1,2 According to the SSDI, her last residence was in Santa Cruz.¹
