James Kidwell was born on 25 February 1823.1
He was the son of John Spauling Kidwell and Mary Hiett.1
James married Rebecca Slane, daughter of Benjamin Slane and Delilah Poston, on 21 February 1845.2,1
They had two children but only one name is known, Francis.1
Rebecca died in October 1849, leaving James a widower.1
James married Mary Mencer on 7 March 1853.1
James and Mary had 6 children but I only know the names of four of them. These children are Delia, Lorenzo, Rebecca and Francis.1
James, age 47, and Mary, age 38, were enumerated on the 1870 Federal Census in Gore Township, Hampshire County, West Virginia. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Francis (age 23, works as a farm hand), Delia (age 16), Lorenzo (age 15), Rebecca (age 7). Mary is unable to read or write.3
James worked as a farmer. His farm was valued at $2500 and his personal property was valued at $800.3
