Ethel Jane [Pearce] Tilbury
m. Lionel Albert Carton

Family mythology: Henry Augustus disappeared to the mines in Burma

About 1904, Ethel and Henry Augustus separated; no record of a divorce has been discovered (to 5 July 2015), which does not mean that there was not one. On remarrying Ethel describes herself as a widow - but might that have been for reasons of respectability? Or did she wait for the required number of years, then declare Henry Augustus as dead?

NB: Ethel Jane didn't marry CARTON until 1913. Thus, supposing she bore children to CARTON at the usual two-yearly interval, except perhaps for Mavis, their family name should have been TILBURY, unless there were CARTON adoption papers?
