bullet  General Notes:

Char, Yes, we are cousins and have so much to talk about!!!!!

I'm just as excited as you are about this. I grew up in La Plata and moved to Columbia and attended the University of Missouri and now work for Shelter Insurance Co. I have been doing this research off and on for about five years. I have collected lots of info on the Garlocks and now am doing the Masons.

John Moss Mason and Martha (Griffin) Mason are the grandparents of Viola. I think she was born on their farm southwest of La Plata. Their daughter Ada Belle Mason married George Jackson Garlock and they had four daughters- Grace, Jessie, Ola, and Ada Belle Garlock. Ola's mother died soon after Ada Belle's birth and Geo. J. remarried Minnie Shain and had Tommy J. and Mary Edna. Both these children died young, Tommy was ran over by a train and Mary died of spinal meningitis.

Grace married Warner Snow first then married William Edward Voyles. They had son Loy Edward Voyles who married Ruby Ellen Snow who had my father, Larry Dean Voyles.

Jessie married ______ Roach and moved to Ft. Worth, Texas

Ada Belle is rather interesting. Seems she had a child (Leon Garlock) and then moved to Texas where her sister was and married Howard Willingham. I think they may have adopted a few children. Anyway, Leon was raised by his grandparents, George J. and Minnie Garlock, joined the Army and never came back to La Plata. I have heard he is still living somewhere in Florida. His mother, Ada Belle changed her name to Helen Louise Willingham so her son would never find her. How about that??? I have been trying to find Leon, but have had no luck.

I know nothing else of Ada Belle and Jessie except that they lived in Ft. Worth. I do however have their death certificates so we do know their birth dates and death dates and burials.

I'm intersted in all the info on Ola's descendants and I know thats a plenty. Ha-Ha.

I will certainly give you all the info I have on the family. I'm just about finished transferring all my info onto computer.

Talk you you soon. Lynn

Garlock Obituaries in Macon County MO
I'm not sure where Geo. Garlock was born...I've seen IA and IL on sources. We really need to find out where his parents were married. Henry and Mary Ann Pierson/Pearson were married Dec. 25, I865...But where???? This date comes from HC Garlock's obit. I'll send you a copy of his obit..I think I typed it and saved it somewhere. The timeframe of their marriage was at the close of the Civil War, so I wonder where he was. Had he already got out of the service? If we find their marriage location that could lead us to her parents. Lynn
