Elisha Lafayette Cobb

1.  Elisha Lafayette COBB was born on April 26, 1853 in Polk County, Tennessee (probably).  He appeared on the census in 1860 in Polk County, Tennessee.  He appeared on the census in 1870 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  He appeared on the census on June 15, 1880 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.  He appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  On this enumeration he declared that he and both his parents were born in Tennessee.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He died on February 21, 1930 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was a Farmer.

 

He was married to Arnettie Dulceania "Nettie" HALEY (daughter of W.M. HALEY and Sarah Jane SWEENEY) on July 26, 1876 in Franklin County, Arkansas.  Arnettie Dulceania "Nettie" HALEY was born on January 2, 1851 in Missouri.  She appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  On this enumeration she declared that she was born in Missouri, and both her parents in Tennessee.  She appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She died on November 27, 1933 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  Elisha Lafayette COBB and Arnettie Dulceania "Nettie" HALEY had the following children:

          3                ii.   Sarah Jane COBB was born on November 23, 1879.  She died on September 5, 1884 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.

          4               iii.   Bennie Lafayette COBB was born on January 21, 1881.  He died on December 26, 1881.

          5               iv.   Author Bryant COBB was born on March 21, 1883 in Arkansas.  He was a twin with brother Oscar.  He appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  On this enumeration he was listed as having been born in Mar 1882 in Arkansas, his father in Tennessee, and his mother in Missouri.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was listed as the head of the household.  He died on August 22, 1936 in Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.

          6               v.   Oscar B. COBB was born in March 1883 in Arkansas.  He was a twin with brother Author.  He died on January 29, 1899.

        +7               vi.   Minnie Myrtle COBB (born on July 4, 1885).

          8              vii.   James Albert COBB was born on April 17, 1887.  He appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  This enumeration lists him as having been born in Jul 1887.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  At that time, he and brother Author were maintaining their own household.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  At that time he was still unmarried and living in the household of his brother Author, with his parents.  He died on November 25, 1971 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was a veteran of the First World War.

          9             viii.   James Author COBB was born in July 1887 in Indian Territory.

        10               ix.   Elmer Sylvester COBB was born on July 21, 1889.  He died on December 13, 1889.

SECOND GENERATION

 

2.  William Robert COBB was born in June 1878 in Arkansas.  He was probably born in either Franklin or Sebastian County.  He appeared on the census in 1880 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.  He appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  At that time he was still unmarried and living with his parents.  On this enumeration he declared that he was born in Arkansas, his father in Tennessee, and his mother in Missouri.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He died in 1923 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.

 

He was married to Pearl LOCKWERGE on December 10, 1907 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  This event was recorded in Marriage Book B1, pp 10, McClain County, Oklahoma.  She had been married previously to a W.H. Elam, by whom she had a son Edward born 1903.  Pearl LOCKWERGE was born in 1880 in Illinois.  She appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  William Robert COBB and Pearl LOCKWERGE had the following children:

 

        14                i.   Lloyd COBB was born about 1909 in Oklahoma (McClain County probably).  He and brother Floyd were apparently twins.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.

        15                ii.   Floyd COBB was born about 1909 in Oklahoma (McClain County probably).  He and brother Lloyd were apparently twins.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.

 

7.  Minnie Myrtle COBB was born on July 4, 1885 in Arkansas.  She appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  She appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She died on June 15, 1968 in Oklahoma.  She was married to James Franklin CLIFT (son of James Earl CLIFT and Violet A. WILSON) on July 14, 1901 in Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  James Franklin CLIFT was born on May 10, 1875 in Izard County, Arkansas.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He died on August 15, 1967 in Oklahoma.  Minnie Myrtle COBB and James Franklin CLIFT had the following children:

 

        16                i.   Nettie CLIFT was born in 1904.  She appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.

        17                ii.   Rose CLIFT was born in 1906.  She appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.

        19               iv.   Gaudy CLIFT was born about 1909.  She appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.

        20               v.   Tommie CLIFT. 

        21               vi.   Frank CLIFT was born in 1912.  He died in 1922.

11.  John Harvey COBB was born on September 20, 1891 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.  He appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He died on May 22, 1976 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was married to Cora HOWETH on October 20, 1912 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  This event was recorded in Marriage Book B2, pp 513, McClain County, Oklahoma.  Cora HOWETH was born on January 29, 1892.  She died on October 29, 1974 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She was buried in Washington, McClain County, Oklahoma.

 

12.  Jesse E. COBB was born on February 5, 1890 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.  He appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  At that time, he and brother Albert were maintaining their own household.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He died in 1981 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma. 

 

He was first married to Gertie "Minnie" GROVER on May 26, 1917 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  Gertie "Minnie" GROVER was born on August 6, 1894 in Texas.  The 1920 census indicates she was born in 1898.  She appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She died on September 28, 1970 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.  Jesse E. COBB and Gertie "Minnie" GROVER had the following children:

 

        23                i.   Oran E. COBB was born in 1920.  He died in 1977 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.

 

He was married second to Motee LNU (COBB) after 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma (probably).  Motee LNU (COBB) was born on June 28, 1909.  She died on May 11, 1961 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  She was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.

 

13.  Virgil L. COBB was born on June 30, 1897 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.  He appeared on the census in 1900 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now McClain County, Oklahoma).  This enumeration listed him as having been born in Jan 1897.  He appeared on the census in 1910 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He appeared on the census in 1920 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was unmarried and living in the household of his brother Author, with his parents.  He died on December 27, 1982 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, McClain County, Oklahoma.  He was married to Verdie MCGOWEN on July 1, 1923 in McClain County, Oklahoma.  This event was recorded in Marriage Book B5, pp514, McClain County, Oklahoma.
