From the Evening Telegraph, Dixon,Illinois,Thursday evening, June 10 1886:
Death of Thaddeus Boardman About 8 o'clock last night, says Chicago paper of this morning, "An old gentleman whos e name is supposed to be T.D. Boardman, was struck by an incoming passenger train on the Illi nois Central Road at Forty-third street and instantly killed. He was five feet six inches ta ll, slim build, with gray hair, mustache and goatee. The innitials T.D.B were on his shirt a nd in a pocket was found a paper with the name T.D. Boardman. The body was taken to the morg ue." This, we have no doubt from the description, is the ending of the life of one of Dixon' s early settlers. Thaddeus D. Baordman came to Dixon as early as 1839 from Tiaga County, Ne w York, where he was born in 1812. He was for many years an active business man here; severa l years engaged in the mercantile trade in a store with Enoch Wood, on the corner of First an d Galena streets, the stone building partly occupied now by the Keystone House for sleeping r ooms. He was a brother of the late Isaac Boardman and leaves a numbe of children. Since placing the above in type we learn that Mr. Boardman was living with his daughter , Mrs. Merritt, whose husband is a tobacconist in Chicago, and that the old man was reporte d missing this morning.
From Evening Telegraph, Dixon, Illinois, Friday evening, June 11, 1886: The fruneral service of T.D.boardman will take place at the residenc of Miss Sarah Richa rds, North Dixon, as 10 o'clock tomorrow forenoon. Note: Tioga county was spelled Tiago county in the obit notice.
From the Dixon Telegraph, Dixon, Illinois, Saturday, May 29, 1852 p3 c2: Married: On the 26th inst. by the Rev. Thomas North, Mr. Thaddeus D. Boardman to Miss Ma ry Richards, all of Dixon, Lee Co., Illinois. Marriage record may be found in Book A (1839-1873) of Lee County Illinois marriages. #2 77 for Jane Richards, #44 for Mary Richards.
