George Frederick Ernest Albert Hanover and H.S.H. Princess Victoria Mary Augusta Louise Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes Württenberg of Teck had the following children:

child 8 i. H.R.H. The Prince Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David3 Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was born in Richmond Park, Surrey 23 June 1894.(44) Edward VIII died 28 May 1972 at Bois de Boulogne, Paris, France, at 77 years of age.(45) He passed away in the early morning hours from cancer of the throat, from which he suffered for at least six months. His body was interred 5 June 1972, in the Royal burial ground Frogmore, Windsor, Berkshire, England.(46) He married Bessie Wallis Warfield at the Château de Candé, Maine-et-Loire, near Tours, France, on 3 June 1937.(47) A civil ceremony was conducted in French, a language that neither the bride or groom knew, followed by a religious service. The Rev. R. Anderson Jardine, vicar of St. Paul's in Darlington, officiated at the Anglican service against the direction of his bishop. The makeshift chapel was a small salon and was used only for the religious service. The duke's former equerry, Major Edward Metcalf, was the best man, and there were only a dozen guests.

Wallis was born in Blue Ridge Summit, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States of America 19 June 1896.(48) Wallis was the daughter of Teackle Wallis Warfield and Alys Montague. Wallis died on 24 April 1986, Paris, France, at 89 years of age.(49) Her body was interred at the Royal burial ground Frogmore, Windsor, Berkshire, England. The Queen and the Queen Mother attended the burial, which was witnessed by only a very few persons.

Wallis was divorced from Earl Winfield Spencer Jr. 1927. This was the first divorce in the Warfield family, and the family was horrified at the prospect of a divorce. Wallis was disinherited by an uncle for obtaining a divorce.(50)

Wallis was granted a divorce decree nisi from Ernest Aldrich Simpson at Ipswich, on 27 October 1936. Wallis was divorced from Ernest Aldrich Simpson 27 April 1937. Wallis proceeded in a civil action, a deed poll, to change her name, 8 May 1937.(51) She assumed the name of Wallis Warfield, dropping the names of Bessie and both of her married surnames.

Her funeral was a private royal ceremonial Anglican service held at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, Berkshire, England. The service was conducted by the archbishop of Canterbury, who did not mention her Christian name once during the rites. Wallis was a vivacious, haughty, self-assertive, "pushy" woman. That was the general opinion of her. She had a disregard for British propriety, and did not know her proper place in society. She acted, it was believed, with scan regard for the other members of the Royal family. She was justly accused of social climbing, having once said she would "marry money."(52) Mr. Blackwell, who is known for his "Best Dressed List," contiously named Wallis to this list until he retired her from the competion by naming her to his "Best Dressed Hall of Fame." It is undeniable that Wallis had great fashion sense, and, in her day, she led society in fashion.

He was christened into the Church of England by the Rt. Rev. Edward White-Benson, archbishop of Canterbury, at the Green Drawing Room, White Lodge, in Richmond Park, Surrey, on 16 July 1894.(53) H.R.H. The Prince Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was created the Prince of Wales, Earl of Chester by George V 23 June 1910. He was invested with the titles of Prince of Wales, Earl of Chester on 13 July 1911 in Caernarvon Castle, Wales. The ceremony was revived at the request of David Lloyd George, the prime minister of the day.

He was confirmed into the Church of England at 16 years of age on 24 June 1910. He became Hon. Gerald David Lascelles's godfather at his christening Goldesborough, near Knaresborough, Yorkshire, 4 October 1924.(54) Edward VIII, at 41 years of age, accedded to the Throne of Britain and India on 20 January 1936 at St James Palace, London, Middlesex, England. Edward VIII abdicated at Fort Belvedere, on the evening of 10 December 1936. The Act of Abdication was passed the next day by the British Parliament to give effect to this declaration. The last act of Edward's reign was the giving of Royal Assent to this Act, which occured at 1.52 p.m.., at which instant the throne passed to the Duke of York.

He was created the Duke of Windsor by George VI on 8 May 1937.(55) The king qualified this grant by limiting the style of Royal Highness to Edward alone and denying that style to his wife or to any of his children. The constitutionality of this provision has been debated.

His funeral was a private royal ceremonial Church of England service held in St. George's Chapel, Windsor, Berkshire, England.(56) The archbishops of Canterbury and York and the Moderator of the Church of Scotland with the dean of Windsor conducted the services, which began with the hymn The King of Love My Shepard Is and included the 90th Psalm. The duke of Gloucester was too ill to attend. To be blunt, Edward was a hypocrite, a bigot and a fascist. He could be very charming in social settings. His biographer Philip Ziegler says that his racist sentiments were 'even beyond the norm for his generation.' He wrote of his 'disgust' at being offered the Eucherist by a black priest in Sierra Leone. He was an admitted anti-Semite. His actions at the end of the 1930s showed him to be symphatic to Nazi Germany, and there has long been spectulation that he was a traitor during World War II.(57)
