Joseph Day Morris died in Akron, Oh., on Saturday, January 17.
He was born on November 17, 1940, in Baltimore, Md. He was the son of Jessie Bird Day Morris and John Sanders Morris, who preceded him in death. He attended Westchester High School in Pennsylvania, enrolled in Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, and received a degree in marketing from Cleveland State University. For more than 30 years he was involved with the Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival at Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland. Later he became an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Akron, where his work with the church's Garden Committee won local renown.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Arielle) Bywater; and granddaughter, Willa Green Bywater; and a brother, John Sanders Morris, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 23, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 West Market Street, Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Memorial Garden Fund.
