Power Et Al DNA and History Project -- I Results Discussion

A Brief Letter Discussing the I Haplogroup Results

Hi Warren

Some rushed comments...

1. I haplotypes.

First thing is to make sure you have seen *the* webpage about I haplotypes, which Ken Nordtvedt made:

2. Within I haplotype, I don't see any obvious sign of the x and y cluster folk. The main I group seems to be:

PJ00011S

6455

PV00025P

18379

QB00031P

16552

QH00037

N5732

PP00018P

27148

PE00006S

6446

PQ00020P

8537

PA00001P

6443

PA00002P

31484

PR00021P

9746

PS00022P

9858

PZ00029S

29353

QC00032P

34419

These look to be I1a - probably originally brought to Ireland by someone of Northern European descent (Denmark, Frisia etc). C75E5(R1b), F33T5(I1a) and N5PNV do not seem related to this group at all.

3. Make sure that apart from searching on ysearch, you also try...

http://smgf.org

4. I am very interested in this person...

PH00009P

20110

I presume he is Mr Poore, who only has 25 markers showing on Ysearch (DSDTB)?

We have a very close match in the Maclea/Livingston DNA project and we know of others in Irish and Scottish families. It appears to be a fairly compact dynasty.

We have been studying this "cluster" and we've discovered using the so-called Kittler test that the normal-looking DYS385=11-14, actually hides the fact that they are in the opposite position to normal R1b people.

5. This group seems clear:

QE00034P

38754

QF00035S

34491

QJ00039

41457

PI00010S

8106

But it is interesting that...

PC00004P

6445

...could be a cousin who has had a single step mutation at DYS385 11-14->14-14

This is something people are learning happens more often than people knew.

It is difficult to be sure about any of the others being related to each other. 12 markers is too inaccurate and many of the possible matches only have 12 markers.

6. For R1b types, I'm not sure if you've seen John McEwan's cluster analysis:

Best Regards

Andrew
