I am researching the Mozley family. I have found family spelled with all variations. I have lots of data to share, and I do like to share. My family started in Va. and moved south to Ga. Some of the family then moved on to Tenn., Ky., Ohio, and Ill. Others moved to Tenn. then to Al., Miss. and points west. My Mozley line moved to Campbell Co., Ga. and then to Marshall Co., Al. James Mozley came from Eng. to Va. in early 1700s. He had two sons that we know of: Walter and Edward. Walter married Sarah Garth and Edward married Mary McDaniel. Wlater's family stayed around Albemarle Co., Va. and Edward moved to Ga. From Ga. desc. of Edward moved to Al., Tenn., OK., MO., Ill., Kentucky, Ohio, Miss., Tx., and other states. We can only trace our Moseley Greatgrandfather back to about 1900, while he was in New Zealand. He settled on the West Coast and was coal miner. We would like to know what ship he and his family came to on N.Z. and when. We think they originated from Yorkshire, England, but that is a stab in the dark! John Rixon[Wrexen]Moseley b. 7/1841 to David & Elizabeth Moseley @ #17 Mill St. Newport Wales. Family intact on 1851 UK Census, disappeared 1861. John re-appeared 1869 @ Promentory Pt. My great-grandfather was William Terrell Moseley of Tom's Creek community in Stephens Co., GA. I think he died in 1958. I know very little about anyone further back that that. The earliest known Mosley/Mozley ancestors in my family are as follows: Laura Florence Cain was born June 14, 1818 in Ga, and died January 19, 1902. She married James Madison Mosley. He was born October 1819 in Ga, and died February 1891. Both are buried in Sardis cemetery in Monroe County, Ms. They were married on Dec 7, 1843, possibly in Monroe County. Marriage date was obtained from Laura's testimony in a court case in later years. Laura's family lived in Monroe, Ms. Children of Laura Cain and James Madison Mosley are: 1. Elizabeth A. Mosley, born in Al. abt 1844. 2. Harriet (Isabella?) Mosley, born in Al. Bet. 1848 - 1849. married John A Verner, widowed. Isabella Mosley Verner was widowed and had a 3 y/o daughter Maggie. Isabella and Maggie were living with Isabella's parents (James and Laura Mosley) in the 1880 census. 3. James Monroe Mosley, born February 17, 1851 in Ms or Al; died April 05, 1936. married Jessie Dora Murphy. 4. William Caleb Mosley, born December 1852 in Ms; died 1932 in Carroll County, Ms. married Clara Matlow of Tn. 5. John Mosley b. in Ms. abt 1854, (believed to have died as a young man, but not proven.) 6. Henry T Mosley, born August 1859 in Ms; died 1936. He married (2) Lola Montez Booth December 19, 1896 in Monroe County, Ms; born December 22, 1867 in Lowndes, Ms; died March 26, 1930. I am trying to identify parents or siblings of James Madison Mosley. I know from census records that he was born in Georgia. Census records also tell me that James Madison Mozley was born in SC and his mother was born in Ga. Searches of court houses revealed 12 years of documents that confirmed family lore that our family name Mosley was originally spelled with a z. No matter how court officers, census takers, land clerks spelled his name, ie Moseley, Mosely, Mosley, my James Madison Mosley consistently signed his name with a Z. "Mozley. This helps to differentiate him from many other Mosley families. By the time he died, his children had changed the spelling to Mosley and buried him that way. There are a couple of wonderful researchers that have done extensive work on the Mozley Name. Both of them believe that my James belongs to their family of James Mozley who migrated from England. We have not found the proof. The naming patterns of James Madison's children etc, "Caleb". Henry T. (which I believe is Henry Terrell" but have yet to document it.) strongly supports this. These names are big in their lines. The big question is where does he tie in.

I am researching a Clement Moseley. This person I believe to be the Clement Moseley mentioned in the 1803 will of a William Moseley in Brunswick Co., Va. I also believe him to be the Clement Moseley in Ireedell Co N.C. in 1805 along with some of his brothers, Zaph(Taph) and Nicodemus. I believe that he went to Ky where he had a son William. This Moseley is the father of Mary Jane Moseley who married Moses B. Johnson in MAssac Co., Ill in 1855. The first part is somewhat speculation and guesses based on available data. Looking for the parents of Joseph A. Moseley who m: Margaret Cassin in Mercer County Illinois. Joseph was sometimes called Joel and he's buried in Mercer County Illinois along side his wife who was born in Ireland; but came to NY as a child with her widowed mother, sisters and brothers. That would be in about 1850 by late 50's they were located in Mercer County. Moseley's were from Medford (or Midford) Massachusettes, but their children, which included Joseph were born in Illinois. Also looking for information on Rachel O'Dell Allbee who after her first husband's death married William A. Mays in Mercer County. Rachel died one year after that ceremoney and it's been speculated that her husband headed west upon her death. Anyone that could help with information as to where he relocated and happens to be buried, please contact me. One of the Allbee daughters married into the McNeal family and that was also in Illinois.

My Grandfather on my dad's side was George Nicholas Moseley. He was born about 1894 and he died in 1919 when the great Pnumonia epidemic went through Oklahoma and Texas. My grandmother's name was Flora Alice Birchfield. She had 14 or so siblings. My great grandfather (or perhaps my great uncle) was named Joseph. I know that my grandmother lived on Indian land as a young girl. I am told that we are part Cherokee and part Chickasaw, as well as Irish and "Black Dutch" which I understand is something Irish people claimed if they were part Indian and were trying to escape the persecution that the Native Americans received in Texas and Oklahoma during the late 1800's and early 1900's.

My great grandfather was born Oct.9, 1873 to Jerry Mosley and Mancie Maiden. They had another son, James, possible name Jimbo. Jerry is possibly the son of a Madison Mosley in Knox Co., KY, and possibly has a twin sister according to the 1860 census named Lean. Both are six years old at the time of the 1860 census. Mancie may be the daughter of either Bryant or James Maiden, and some of the Maidens came from Poplar Creek, KY. I am needing info to either prove/disprove the above info. Just found out that my gr-great grandfather Jerry Mosely was a full-blooded Cherokee, although on the 1880 Bell Co., Ky census and on his son Samuel Mosley's death certificate, Jerry is listed as being White. Jerry married a Nancy Maiden who was said to have been born in either TN or KY - parents unknown, and she is listed as White also. Jerry was born abt 1820-1827, but I cannot find who his parents were. I have tried the Miller and Dawes Rolls, but cannot find him listed there. I have no death date. Jerry and Nancie and their family seems to have disappeared after 1880, and there is no known record of them before then. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I am searching for the ancestry of my great great grandfather Ben/Benjamin Mosley. According to the 1910 census he was born in Texas, his father in Georgia, and his mother in Mississippi. He appeared here in Tennessee by 1884 when he married. He lived here until he was killed by a train in 1916. I have found a Ben/Benjamin Mosley who was the son of a Seaborn/Seabron Mosley who settled in Nacogdoches County, TX in the 1850s. This family was in Navarro County, TX by the 1880 census when this Benjamin listed his birthplace as Texas, the father's as Georgia, and the mother's as Mississippi.THE SAME AS MY BENJAMIN MOSLEY. Also, my Ben Mosley had a daughter Anna America. The Texas Ben Mosley had a sister Anna and an apparent aunt or cousin in Nacogdoches named America. To whom it may concern, Just curious if any of William Brantley Mosley's sons (Thomas or John) ever moved to Alabama. I have traced my roots all the way back 7 generations to a man named Thomas Jance Mosley (b. abt. 1812 - d. abt. 1886) from GA who was related to a man named John Mosley. I have been able to trace my father's family back to George Mosley born 1834 in Digby, Petite Passage, Nova Scotia, Canada. George 1834 is my Gr Gr Grandfather. He married Elizabeth Stirk/Sturk. This has been a standstill for all Mosley researchers (my line). Recently I found a George Mosley in a list of members of The Port Roseway Association in 1783. He was in New York (U.S.) it appears he was a lawyer and was evacuated along with a woman and three children to Port Roseway, now known as Shelburne Nova Scotia, Canada. Shelburne appears to be a short distance from Digby, Petite Passage. I am attempting to find the parents of George Mosley 1834. I am wondering if George Mosley the lawyer who came to Nova Scotia in 1783 is somehow related to my Gr Gr Grandfather. Most importantly I would like to find the parents of George Mosley born 1834.
