William Talley purchased of William McClure's Estate 100 acres of land on the "New Road" to the southeast of Perry's Hotel, and made his home there until his death in 1839. [37]

Adam Talley was an extensive land-owner at Talley's Corner. He devised a farm each to his sons William D., Thomas Miller and Lewis, subject to legacies to his daughters; and a "new house," with a small tract, to Priscilla Hanby (wife of William Hanby) for life, with remainder to her son, Adam Talley Hanby, in fee. His desk and armchair were devised to Lewis. Lewis was appointed executor of the will, and letters were granted to him August 1, 1844. The witnesses to the will were Isaac Grubb and Lewis S. Talley (the preacher). Adam's will bears the date of May 7, 1842. Adam was a very thrifty and honorable man. Camp-meeting was held in his woods adjoining the Grubb Road for several seasons. [37]

Thomas Talley was born on the farm late of Penrose R. Talley on the Foulk Road, Brandywine Hundred, New Castle Co, DE. He was a small boy at the date of the Battle of Brandywine, yet he recollected distinctly having seen a part of the American army retreating past his home, going to Chester on the evening of the battle. A portion may have gone by the Foulk Road. Thomas married Mary Weldin, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Allmond) Weldin, who lived on Penny Hill, on the Philadelphia Turnpike. George Weldin was a brother to Jacob Weldin, who married Mary Allmond, sister to Elizabeth. George and Jacob were sons of Isaac, who was a son of the first Jacob. Thomas and Mary Talley, shortly after their marriage, purchased a farm on the lower Shellpot, above Webster's mill, and moved to it soon after 1800. They spent the remainder of their life on this farm. Thomas was a very neat and intelligent man. He was a stone mason by trade, and helped to erect the immense stone arch which forms the Naaman's Creek Bridge at Claymont, Delaware. Thomas was a patriot and shouldered his musket in the War of 1812. [37]
