David Franklin Alexander is in possession of Benjamin
Franklin Farmer's tattered personal Bible and sent family
details on 6 January 2005. Details of publication are
not known. Benjamin
Franklin Farmer
married Maggie Walker, daughter of Elbert Elexander
Walker. The relevant portion of David's message is below.
Note that the birth dates for Bertha Ada Farmer and
Maggie (Walker) Farmer both disagree in the year from
all other sources.
...I am in possession of Ben Franklin Farmers
personal Bible - it is in terrible shape but obviously
was a guiding book in his life as the usage indicated
considerable wear and tear. On the entry page
the following is recorded in his handwriting.
- Mrs. Maggie Farmer died April the 27, 1906
- Bertha Ada Farmer was borned July 22, 1900
- Mr. B. F. Farmer his book
- Ben Franklin Alexander was borned April 27,
1915...
- Mrs Maggie ____ Farmer was borned Dec 11th.
1880 [written in pencil and extremely faded but
the middle initial appears to be perhaps a W -
then again it could be something else - just too
faded to tell]...
On another page of the entry part of the Bible
is written in pencil what appears to be:
- Linie Taylor was born July the 31st. 1884 married
to BF Farmer August the 5, 1933 [It may be the
"Viney" that my mother remembers being
with when she and my dad visited his grandfather
Ben shortly after they were married. Mom is 89
and her only visit to the family was a long time
ago so the information about names is questionable
in my opinion.]
Inside page back:
- Oscar _____ Farmer was born May the 21, 1911
- Benjamin Odell Farmer was born July 11th. 1915
- William Claude Farmer was born November 4th.
1917
Inside the back cover it repeats the birth date
of Oscar and Odell but adds that
- Ottey Duella Farmer [spelling is highly questionable]
born and dide November 18, 1921
The text of the bible is missing from James chapter
4 on. Each chapter in the bible is marked with
a pencil "x" I suppose indicating that
he has read it. A few comments are marked along
the edges in pencil but are basically descriptive
in nature.
