Joshua L. Clarke, 71, of route 2, Janesville, died Tuesday night in Mercy hospital where he had been two weeks for treatment. Funeral services will be held in the Milton S. D. B. church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, October 10, Rev. J. L. Skaggs officiating. Burial will be in Milton cemetery where the I. O. O. F. will have charge.
Joshua, son of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Clarke, was born June 19, 1859, at Berlin, Wis., but has resided in the vicinity of Milton the past thirty years.
Mr. Clarke was married twice, his first wife being Ella Vedder, and they had one son, Lewis. Some time after her death, Mr. Clarke married Mary Louise Jordan, who, with their seven children, survives him. The children are William Aden Clarke, Battle Creek, Mich.; Jorden Lee Clarke, Chicago; Lucy A., Mary A., Nancy M., and Alice, all at home, and Una L. (Mrs. Merritt Van Horn), Milton. Seven grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Nancy Cresson, Whitewater, and a brother Phineas Clarke of Janesville also survive. Two brothers Giles and William Clarke died a number of years ago.

Services for Mrs. Joshua L. Clarke, Milton, were held Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Carroll L. Hill of the Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery.
The former Mary Louise Jordan, daughter of William and Mary Dye Jordan, was born in Brookfield, N. Y. March 11, 1871. She taught school in New York until her marriage to Joshua L. Clarke Feb. 2, 1898. They located in the Milton area one year later. Mr. Clarke passed away in October 1930. Mrs. Clarke was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Gilbert Hudlow of Gainsville, Fla., Mrs. Una Van Horn, Milton Junction, Miss Mary Clarke, Dodgeville, Mrs. Alvin Nelson, Route 1, Milton, and Mrs. Earl Seffrood, South Wayne; two sons, Aden Clarke, El Centro, Calif., and Jordan Clarke, Tampa, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Calvin Millard, Stocton, Ill.; Wesley Seffrood, Lena, Ill.; Emil and Elton Seffrood, both of South Wayne, and Richard Hudlow, Ocala, Fla.
