At Byron, Waseca county, Minn., Jan. 30th, 1878, of consumption, Augustus Edwin Crumb, aged 50 years, 7 months, and 30 days. The deceased was born at De Ruyter, Madison county, N. Y., June 1st, 1827. At the age of twenty-two years, he moved to Milton, Wis., and was married to Calista J., eldest daughter of Rev. Zuriel Campbell, Dec. 28th, 1849, from which place he removed to Christiana, Wis., where, shortly after, he professed the religion of Christ, and united with the Seventh-day Baptist Church at Utica, Wis., where he remained a consistent member until his removal to Minnesota, in 1863, shortly after which time, he joined the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Trenton, Minn., continuing membership until death. Funeral services conducted by Bro. Cottrell, of Dodge Center. Sermon from Psalms.
Bro. Crumb was an industrious, energetic pioneer, enthusiastic in whatever he undertook, and ambitious almost to a fault. During his sickness, he was a great sufferer; he had borne for many years the unmistakable brand of hereditary consumption; still, with a resolution characteristic of himself, he would not bear the name of an invalid, until about one year ago, when strength of manhood yielded to the power of acute disease. Gradually, patiently, hopefully, he faded from this life to one "beyond the river."
"'Neath the winter snows we laid him,
Like a quiet babe at sleep,
Thanking God for hope in Heaven,
For the ransomed, who shall weep?" A. P. O.
