Curtis and Cassandra (as she was known) moved to the Loudsville Community, Nachoochee Valley, of Habersham County, Georgia. (now White County) around 1822. Curtis acquired approximately 500 acres purchased from William White and William Galdsba.
Curtis and Cassandra had several children that were born in Buncombe/Macon Co., N.C. with them.
He provided for his family by farming and working as a carpenter. He also was a Methodist minister as well as a governor appointed Justice of the Peace.

Curtis died May 1838 in a farming accident. Buried at Dukes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, White County, Georgia.

Males: 0-10, 3 (Anderson, Allison and Andrew), 16-26, 1, (Curtis is 24), Females: 0-10, 1 (Mary is 2), 16-26, 1 (Sarah Cassandra is 20) 1830 US Census, Habersham Co, GA, page 8, lists Curtis Leadford, Males: under 5, 2 (John and 1 other), 5-10, 2 (Curtis and Thomas), 10-15, 1 (Andrew), 30-40, 1 (Curtis), Females: under 5, 1, 10-15, 1 (Mary), 30-40, 1 (wife, Sarah C.). Note: John Ledford, age 20-30 lives nearby. Not sure who this is.
PROPERTY: According to Keith Townson (Ledford researcher) notes 'Curtis and Cassandra moved to Loudsville community, Nachoochee Valley, of Habersham Co, GA (now White Co) around 1822. Curtis aquired abt 500 acres by both purchasing and obtaining land grants. They came in with the original settlers I believe because Thomas Allison (Cassandra's uncle) was listed with the original 66 settlers of the valley. If Curtis didn't come with them he was right behind them. Curtis and Cassandra already had several children that were born in Buncombe/Macon Co, NC with them.' 'Buncombe Co., NC Index to Deeds, 1783-1850', by James E. Wooley, shows entry for Curtis Ledford on North Fork Swannanoa River, 260 acres, grantor was George F. Ladford, 22 Dec 1819, book 14, page 152 'The 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery of GA', @ACPL, by Smith, 9th district, 4th section, originally Cherokee indian lands, now Walker Co, GA. Curtis Ledford of Habersham Co awarded plot #293.
