Howard Dewey Hickman and
Aster Isabell Moore. He died on 22 July 2011 at Fairfield, CA., at age 87. He was buried at Mt. View Cemetery, Oakland, CA.. Howard graduated from the California Maritime Academy and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a Naval Reserve Offider. He was an engineer on the City of Oakland Fireboat. In 1957, he trained in the new field of nuclear powered electricity generating plants. For most of his career, he worked as a start-up engineer and manager on power plants in many locations. Several of his designs received U.S. patents. He lived in Idaho Falls, ID., Pittsburgh, PA., Mol, Belgium, San Clemente, CA., Three Rivers, WI., Quincy, MA., Tokyo, Japan, Cobb, CA., and St. Francisville, LA.
He received a Masters Degree from Harvard University in 1985.
When he semi-retired as a consultant to geothermal power plants in Cobb, CA, he served on the local water board and the Lake County Grand Jury. He taught at Yuba Community College and became active in the Lions Club, becoming a Youth Exchange Coordinator for northern California. He was a Free Mason, life member of Live Oak Lodge, Oakland, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.
