  Andrew served in Co. C. of the 92nd Illinois Infantry. Enlisted in August 1862 under Capt. William Slouffer. While serving in the area of Franklin, Tennessee in March of 1863 he contracted typhoid fever. He also had a massive abcess which may have occured from a splinter, piece of metal or any number of things. This was untreated while he was delierious with typhoid. It resulted in a 50% disability due to nerve damage in one leg. He was transferred to a hospital in Chicago, where his wife Eliza tended him, leaving her children with family. He applied for his disability pension in 1874, 1875 and in 1882. His last application was sent in only 3 days prior to his death.
  
  His third wife, Martha did eventually receive a widows pension of $8 per month.
  
  Andrew had raised quality horses prior to his enlistment in the Army. Due to his inability to move out of harms way, if need be he gave up the horses and became a bee keeper.
