PHELPS, HUNT, KENNEDY, MARTIN HOME PAGE
For some time I've been aware that my Phelps ancestors arrived in America in 1634. Several years ago my mother was contacted by a descendant of the brother of my immigrant ancestor. He had done considerable research and sent me an outline of his findings as it related to my family and also of his. We corresponded for many years and I shared what I could find and he, very generously, shared with me. In 1998 we reconnected and I became more interested and started looking on the web. I now have a mixture of information from many sources, much of it not confirmed. I would like to share it, partly to find others in my tree and also to test the validity of it.
The Hunt family has only been traced back to Rhode Island to John Hunt and Keziah Darling (married June 5, 1738). One source mentioned Bartholomew Hunt as John's father but I have since learned that this is not true. I have recently connected with some Hunt ancestors who have shared information about the Tracy family, my grandmother's mother's family as well and will have more as time goes on.
The Kennedy and Martin families are more difficult because they are more recent immigrants and from Ireland where so many records have been lost.
In the next few pages, with links to World Connect for the ancestor lists, I am sharing what I have. My sources are varied from lists written by my mother and grandmother to information from other family members. Some sections were found on other web pages and cd's and, therefore, may be suspect.
(Update: In the year 2000 we have developed a cousinhood of two Hunt and three Tracy descendants and a couple more from the Steves family. We have had a wonderful time sharing, not only our common genealogy, but the stories of our past and current lives. This has been very rewarding. I have also reconnected with a cousin from my father's family who has been involved with genealogy for many years . This has led to new information and pictures of the Martin and McCool families.)
