FHL Caithness Family History 941.13 D2h pg 123-30 - in 1557 the lands of Forss and Baillie belonged to the Bishopric, but in that year they were feued out to John, Earl of Sutherland, and Eleanor, his wife; and in January 1560 they were granted in feu to David Sinclair of Dun, in liferent, and to his three sons, William Alexander, and Henry.
Pg 5 states that David was a natural son of John, third Earl, and held the office of Bailie to the Bishop of Caithness. In 1556, David's brother, Earl George, obtained a remission for imprisoning him in Girnigo Castle.
GD96/223/A - 14/1/1586 Minute of agreement between George, Earl of Catnes, James, Master of Catnes, his brother german, David Sinclar, their brother, and George Sinclar of Mey, their uncle. George Sinclar is to have peaceful possession of the feu lands of Mey, Hollandmey, etc., and he is to renounce all actions for spuilzie against the earl and his brothers.
