Population 177 in 1881 -- FishingForkhill is 4. 5 miles north, north-west from Dundalk, on the road to Armagh. It is in the Barony of Upper Orior, close to the Louth border. A fertile valley stretches north and south from this point for several miles. Oats, potatoes and flax are the principal crops. In good times the farmers of the district are able to live comfortably. There has been a small increase in the population of the village within a period of 50 years. . . . . .

Mullaghbawn is a village of about 20 houses in the parish of Forkhill, 6 miles, Irish, north, north-west from Dundalk. It is situated in a valley flanked by Slieve Gullion and the Forkhill Mountains. The land is good. Oats, potatoes and flax are the chief crops. Some of the farmers devote attention to dairying.
