DARKLEY
---------
Darkley, on the Callan, is 8 miles south by west from Armagh, and 2 miles south-east of Keady. It had a population of 810 in 1881.The village is situated on an eminence, which commands a splendid view of the surrounding country. Tullynawood Lake, about 80 acres in area, is a mile above Darkley -it is well stocked with pike and perch, and occasionally affords good snipe shooting. A reading room and library for the working people are maintained by a subscription of one penny per week from each member. A cricket club, with about 50 members, has been in full swing for a few years. The land in the district is rather poor and boggy in some parts. Oats and potatoes are the principal crops.
