JOHNSON and SCHAUFELBERGER GENEALOGY
WHITE Letters
NOTE FROM SHARON JOHNSON: The recipient is a guess based on the fact that other correspondence with George White Hawkins references Mr. Onderdonk. Because I believe that the subject matter is referencing the suit of the White's with respect to the Ocean Grove property, I have included this letter here rather than with Hawkins.
Friend George.
The Secretary of State is away on his vacation in Newark, I can get you a letter to one of the Clerks in the Office. Now I send you a card of a gentleman a friend of mine that has been a searcher for just such information as you are looking for and can set you on the right track as how to look for them. Some of the old grants or Titles are in the Secretary of State office and some are in Perth Amboy. You can only see those in Perth Amboy on a Wednesday when the Surveyor General is there if your friend should call on Mr. Many whose card I send to you I think he would put you on the right track to find what you want as he has been all through that property down there and might give you some good points. You mention my name to Mr. Many and he will do all for him he can.
Yours +c.
Frank Onderdonk
10 Cottage St.
J.C.
I think it will be a great help to you if you do as I suggest as Mr. Many is an old searcher and comes from that part of the country and has promised to do all he can to help you.
