170. Robert M. POINDEXTER⁵⁹ was born on 26 March 1840. He died on 7 September 1895 at the age of 55 in Cumberland County, Kentucky.

Robert married Eva Angeline Coe. They had two children. Eva died between 1861-65 and he married her sister Jemima Jane Coe. The 1880 census suggests yet another wife.

Robert M Poindexter first inlisted in the CSA Company H 8th regiment Tennessee Infantry 5th of Nov 1862 under Capt T. J. Davis. In 1864 he deserted and enlisted in the USA Army in Co. L, 10th Cavalry Regiment 4th of March 1864.

Robert married, or attempted to marry a 4th time to Margaret Ann "Peggy" Branham who had also been married several times, on 15 Nov 1891. She had never divorced her most recent husband Henry Clay Scott and the marriage was illegal.

He is believe buried Short Cemetery at Short's Chapel, Monroe Co, KY, along with Jess Poindexter and wife (presumably his son) - their graves are all unmarked.

Robert M. POINDEXTER and Eva Angeline COE were married circa 1857. Eva Angeline COE, daughter of John Jefferson COE and Mary SHORT, was born in 1838. She died before 1865 at the age of 27.

Robert M. POINDEXTER and Jemima Jane COE were married on 1 August 1865. They were divorced before 1877. Jemima Jane COE, daughter of John Jefferson COE and Mary SHORT, was born on 10 October 1849 in Kentucky. She died on 14 January 1892 at the age of 42.

After her divorce from Robert Poindexter, Jemima married Issac Newton Long, as his second wife. She is said to be buried Short's Chapel Cemetery, Monroe Co, KY.

Robert M. POINDEXTER and Martha THOMPSON were married on 16 August 1877 in Clay County, Tennessee. They were divorced on 29 May 1891. Martha THOMPSON was born in 1851.

Married John Willis after her divorce from Robert Poindexter. Her divorce was 29 May 1891 and she married Willis on 13 Jun 1891. Robert was given custody of their children. However after Robert's death, John Willis was awarded guardianship of three minor children - he applied for their pension but was rejected.

356	i.	Walter Allen POINDEXTER was born on 4 April 1881. He died on 21 February 1919 at the age of 37 in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee. When the stepfather John Willis tried to apply for their father's pension, this child was listed as William A. Poindexter. His marriage record is W. A. Poindexter. His World War I draft registration is Walter Allen Poindexter. His death record has Walter A. Poindexter and he is said to be buried "Charles Mofield", who was actually the superintendent of the Smith Co TN Poor House cemetery.
