Will of William McClure 1857.
I found a letter from Stan and Gay about McClures..........He says Wm.
McClure died at 82 yrs 1 mo 8 da and the the will of Wm. McClure of
May 1857
names Wm. Noel and 10 other brothers and sisters.....apparently all
the
children of Sarah. And specifically Wm
McClure #430 3rd dist. of Carroll, Tn.
of NC.
Susan McClure who lived next door appears on the 1830 Montgomery, TN
census
with a Wm. who is apparently the same Wm. and a probably brother to
DR.
Robert, Hugh and Samuel McClure of Montgomery. Hugh and Robert both
died
between 1820 and 1830 when our Wm. probably married. Wm. 1st
appears in Sept
1830 buying 320 acres in Carroll Co. then transferring some to a Joseph
McClure (think his son, by, maybe, another marriage on the S. fork
of the
Obion River near Christmasville or "little N. Carolina".)
Another letter says.......... research in Weakly Co. should help clear
some
of it....and a look at Illinois to find sons Joseph and Edward may
get their
approx. birth dates and families. I believe Wm. Sr. came from
Montgomery Co.
because of the Susan "deal" and no record appears before 1830.
There was an
annulment for a Wm. McClure in Montgomery Co. in 1821 as a wife ran
off to
Illinois, it could be a first wife & took the eldest kids &
he married our
Sarah about then (Speculation).
Sooooooo that is part of Stan's other letter. We do know that
the annulment
took place and I think there were 3 kids.....at least.
...Stan has Eddie as Edward Lafayette McClure.
Thanks again.
Lots of Love,
Joyce
My notes from the Will of William McClure dated May term 1857 of Carroll
County, Tennessee .....
Test. James M. .....Lewis?
Irvin Curlee (this is one
of our Curlee relatives)
(the will states William's wife is Sarah....)
I do give to my son William N. McClure one saddle and horse worth $75.
and
350 acres of land part lying in the bottom and part on the hills to
be
divided D.H. McClure and William N. to which is on record and they
have a
deed for the same to be worth $5.00 per acre done received.
that was in the first part of the will, to the children living in
Tennessee......then it states that he gives $50. each to 2 living sons
in
Illinois,
Edward G., Joseph M. and that he has deceased son, James M. and gives
his
widow $50.
I looked through some of the letters that Mac sent me. We both
had
interpreted the will this way.
Mac found a record from the legislature where William had divorced
a wife and
she and sons moved to Illinois.
Yes, families did travel together. A lot of the Curlees are buried
in Texas,
including Irvin.
