  • She was the daughter of Charles A. Legg and Alice Letita Haleyn.2
  • The census of 1880 shows:
    Gertrude H. Legg, daughter, 2; in the household of
    Charles A. Legg, 39, finisher in dye works; and
    Alice Letita Haleyn, wife, 37, keeping house;
    living at 31 Florence Avenue, Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts.4

  • The census of 1900 shows:
    Gertrude Howard Legge, daughter, 22, wirer at a hat factory; in the household of
    Charles A. Legg, 60;
    living at Upton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.5

  • The census of 1910 shows:
    Gertrude Howard Legge, 31;
    living at Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
    She was a nurse, living in the home of, and working for, Sarah J. Howarth, and her children, Andrew J. and Francis G. Howarth. There was also a servant in the household.6

  • 19 October 1920, she was a nurse in Worcester, and applied for a passport to go to Constantinople and Italy for relief work, intending to return in one year. She intended to leave New York, sailing on the Peters, embarking 6 Nov 1920.1
  • 13 March 1923, she applied for a passport, with her permanent residence being Oxford, Mass. She last left the United States in Nov 1920, arriving at Aedipsos, Greece in Dec 1922, where she was residing, engaged in relief work on behalf of American Women's Hospitals of New York. She was in Serbia from Dec 1920 to Apr 1922, after which she went to Caucausus until Dec 1922, and then to Greece. She intended to return to the U.S. within two years, and intended to travel to France, England, Italy, and Switzerland, for travel and relief work. She is described as 5' 1", with a regular forehead, blue eyes, medium nose, regular mouth, round chin, black hair, dark complexion, and oval face.3
  • The census of 1930 shows:
    Gertrude H. Legge, 51, a registered nurse;
    living at 10 Boynton Street, Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
    Also living there was a roomer, Mabel Harington, 38, also a registered nurse. The home was rented for $45.7

  • The census of 1940 shows:
    Gertrude H. Legge, 61, working at a store;
    living at 18 Holman Street, Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
    Also living there was a roomer, Mabel G. Harington, 48. The home was rented for $32.8

  • Gertrude H. Legge died in November 1967 in Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, at age 89.9
