Erastus Foote

  • Erastus Foote was born on 19 September 1777.1
  • He was the son of Obed Foote and Mary Todd.
  • Erastus Foote was admitted to the bar in Northampton, Massachusetts, and began his professional career at Camden, Maine. He was successively county attorney, senator of Massachusetts legislature, senator of Maine legislature immediately after the organization of Maine into a state and attorney-general of Maine. This last office he held for twelve successive years, and gave tone and character to the criminal jurisprudence of the state, alike honorable to himself and highly appreciated by the public.1
  • Erastus Foote married Susan Carlton in 1812, as his first wife.1
  • Erastus Foote married Eliza Carlton on 9 July 1820, as his second wife.1
  • Erastus Foote died on 14 July 1856 in Wiscasset, Lincoln County, Maine, at age 78.

Erastus Foote

b. 4 March 1850, d. after 1913
  • Erastus Foote was born on 4 March 1850 in Wiscasset, Lincoln County, Maine.
  • He was the son of Erastus Foote and Sarah Page Wood.
  • Erastus Foote moved to Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts as a young man, and worked for two years as a clerk in a wholesale grocery house.1
  • In 1868, Erastus Foote moved to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois with his father, and became a clerk in the iron foundry and manufacturing establishment of N. S. Bouton & company. This concern was finally merged in the Union Foundry Company, of which Mr. Foote became an officer. In 1883 the Dearborn Foundry Company was established and Mr. Foote became president. His office was at the plant, 1525 Dearborn street, Chicago. He owned a summer home in his native town and spent as much time as possible at Wiscasset. He was a member of the Union League Club of Chicago, the Western Society of Engineers, and the New England Society of Chicago. In politics he was a Republican, in religion a Presbyterian.1
  • Erastus Foote died after 1913, unmarried.1
