  1. Obtained copy of part of the passenger list of the SS Sarnia, Liverpool to Quebec, Master: Joseph Gibson, departed Liverpool 25 April 1884, arrived Quebec 11 May 1884
  2. Searched the on-line National Archives of Canada database on home children (search terms: Sarnia, May, 1884, unidentified)
  3. Obtained copies of the 1881 Census for the Children's Home, Bonner Road, London, and Edgworth, Lancashire
  4. Input the above data into a spreadsheet and then sorted it to identify matching or near-matching records
  5. Discrepancies and explanations are noted as per the Legend and appear in the Table 2
