ECKLES, GEORGE BLAYNEY-- George Blayney Eckles, 85, of Follansbee, WV, died Monday evening, December 4, 2000, at home. He was born February 13, 1915, in Dallas, WV, the son of William and Anna Blayney. After both parents died, he and his twin sister made their home with the late Mr. and Mrs. Giff Atkinson of Valley Grove and their foster son, Howard Winters. Mr. Eckles was a graduate of West Liberty High School and worked at Koppers Tar & Chemical Company, Follansbee, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of Hooverson Heights Church of Christ, Follansbee; Wellsburg Lodge No. 2 AF&AM; Scottish Rite of Wheeling; and was a fireman for several years with Hooverson Heights Firemen. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Bertha Garrison Eckles; two daughters, Ruth and husband Donald Shingleton and Betty and husband Warren Flanagan, all of Follansbee; a son, William L. Eckles and wife Trish of Follansbee; his twin sister, Margaret Doman Byers of Washington; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Wrightson; and two half-sisters. Services were conducted by Ed Harnish with interment in West Alexander Cemetery.
