In 1850, he was living in ward 3, Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with John and Hannah Carson (presumably his parents), and with Samuel Carson (presumably his sibling). [source: 7]

The Joseph Carson who died of debility on 22 November 1854 is presumably his brother. He was two years old, and the son of John and Hannah Carson. [source: 12]

In 1860, he was living in ward 17, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with John and Hannah Carson (presumably his parents), with Samuel, Elizabeth, and James Carson (presumably his siblings), and with a housekeeper. He was a weaver. [source: 8]

When he enlisted, he was a weav[er]. [source: 2]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 26 January 1864. He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Burke. He was mustered in as a private in company H. [sources: 1, 2, 13]

He was wounded on 18 June 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. [source: 1]

He was absent, in hospital, when the regiment mustered out. He was a private, in company H. [sources: 1, 13]

After the war

On 10 October 1865, he successfully applied for a pension. [source: 3]

In 1870, he was living in ward 17, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with John and Hannah Carson (presumably his parents), with James, John, Mary, and Elizabeth Carson (presumably his siblings), and a housekeeper. He worked in a cotton mill. [source: 9]

On 6 November 1876, his sister, Lizzie, died. She died of phthisis. She was single. She died at, or was buried from, 222 Hazzard Street, ward 31, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On 9 November 1876, she was buried in Franklin Cemetery. [source: 11]

In 1880, he was living at 222 Hazzard Street, ward 31, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with his parents John and Anna Carson, and siblings James, John, Mary, and Emma Carson. He was a spooler. [source: 10]

On 30 January 1888, William Carson died, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was not married. He died of a heart clot following amputation. On 1 February 1888, he was buried in North Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was buried from his late residence, 1823 Hazzard Street, ward 31, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
