Before the war

He was born in 1816/17 (2 (44 in 1861), 4 [82 in 1890], 5 [39 in 1850], 6 [51 in 1860], 7 [61 in 1870], 8 [61 in 1870], 9 [70 in 1880]). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4 [Delaware Cty PA], 5, 6, 7, 9).

In 1850, he was living in Blockley Township, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with Margaret (presumably his wife), Henrietta, Isaac, Emma, Samuel, and Charles (presumably their children), and with William Duffield (5). He was a stone mason, and owned $2,500 in real estate (5).

In 1860, he was living in ward 24, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with Margaret (presumably his wife), and with Henrietta, Isaac, Emma, Samuel, Charles, Thomas, Maggie (presumably their children) (6). He was a master bricklayer, and owned $5,000 in real estate and $200 in personal property (6).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 22 October 1861 (1, 2). He enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2). He was mustered in, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 2). He was a private, in company I (1, 2, 10, 11).

He was discharged on 12 April 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2). He was a private in company I (10, 11).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in ward 24, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, probably on Lancaster Avenue (7, 8). He was living with Margaret (presumably his wife), and with Charles, Thomas, Margaret, Isaac, Elizabeth, and Samuel (7). (Charles, Thomas, Margaret, and Isaac are probably their children; Elizabeth may be Isaac's wife, and Samuel Elizabeth and Isaac's child.) He was a shoemaker, and owned $2,500 in real estate and $800 in personal property (7).

In 1880, he was living at 5111 Lancaster Avenue, ward 24, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Margaret, and son Thomas (9). He was a shoemaker (9).

In 1890, he was living at 5109 Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). He was "confined at home with paralysis" (3).

On 29 September 1890, he died at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). He died of inanition (4). He died at, or was buried from 51st and Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4) He was married (4). He was a stone mason (4). On 3 October 1890, he was buried in Fernwood Cemetery, Delaware County, Pennsylvania (4).
