Adam H Imler

Before the war

He was born on 24 May 1835 (11, 13, 17 [14 May]; 3 (30 in 1864), 4 [28], 5, 9 [25 in 1860], 10 [44 in 1880], 11 [65 in 1900], 12 [74 in 1910], 16 [51 in 1887], 18 [16 in 1850], 19 [34 in 1870]). He was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania (3, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 18, 19). He was born to Henry Imler and Barbara Croyle (13).

In 1850, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (18). He was living with his parents Henry and Barbara Imler, and with other Imler's (18).

He married Hannah Berkheimer, about 1854 (13). They had one child (13):

In 1860, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Hannah and his son John H (9, 13). He was a farm laborer, and owned $100 in personal property (9).

When he enlisted, he was a stock dealer [?] (3, 5).

His brother, William Imler, and his cousin Martin Imler, also served in the 91st Pennsylvania (14).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (3, 5).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3, 5). He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 21 September 1864, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4, 5, 6 [8 Oct 64]). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (3, 5). His enlistment was credited to the 16th congressional district (3, 5). He was a private in company B (1, 22, 23).

He was reported present on the muster roll for January-February 1865) (15).

According to the regimental hospital records, "Imler of Co. B" was treated for constipation from 22 to 26 February 1865 (15). (This may have been William or Martin Imler.)

He was apparently charged for a knapsack, a haversack, a canteen, and a one-piece tent (5).

He was discharged at Washington, D.C., by general order 94, War Department, on 6 June 1865 (1) or 25 May 1865 (2, 4 [6 Jun 65, by telegram from AGO dated 3 May], 6 [6 Jul 65]). He was a private, in company B (22, 23).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (19). He was living with his mother Barbara and son John (19). He was a farm laborer (19).

In 1874 or 1875, he married Elizabeth A Grabill (11, 12, 13). They had two children (13; see also 11 [1 child] and 12 [1 child]):

In 1880, he was living in King Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (10). He was a farmer (10). He was living with his (second) wife Lizzie A, his sons John H and Charles L, and a servant (10).

On 15 January 1887, he made an affidavit supporting the pension application of Maria widow of Martin Imler (16). He was living in Imler Valley, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (16).

On 11 April 1887, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (7, 8).

In 1890, he was living in Imler Valley, King Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (6). He had rheumatism (6).

In 1900, he was living in King Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his (second) wife Elizabeth, his son Charles, and a boarder (11). He was a farmer (11).

In 1910, he was living in King Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his second wife Elizabeth and a boarder (12). He was the proprieter of a boarding house (12).

He again applied for a pension on 6 June 1910 [?] (7).

He died on 24 January 1912, in Imler, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (7, 12, 17). He was buried in the Old Imler Cemetery, Imler, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (17).

On 12 February 1912, his widow, Elizabeth A Imler, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (7, 8).

In 1920, his widow, Elizabeth A Imler, was living in King Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (21). She was living with her son Charles and his family (21).

In 1930, his widow, Elizabeth A Imler, was living in King Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (20). She was living with her son Charles and his family (20).

His widow, Elizabeth A Imler, died on 12 July 1934 (17). She was buried in the Old Imler Cemetery, Imler, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (17).
