Mar 1841 it is reported in the Naval and Military Gazette that the Bulldog, second class steam-vessel has been ordered to be built at Chatham.

13 Apr 1841 Chatham, preparations are being made for laying down the Bulldog.

5 Nov 1846 arrived at San Nicholas, Cape de Verd Islands, with H. M. Arbitrator to the Mixed Commission Court, for dealing with slave vessels detained for adjudication. The Mixed Commission Court normally worked from Boa Vista, but Yellow Fever continues to rage through the island, and the Commissioner, the late Mr. Macaulay, had died from the disease on about 24 Sep 1845, and thus the court will probably work from San Nicholas until the situation returns to normal.
