Notes:

22 Aug 1798 Naiad, joined by the Magnanime, chased and captured the French 36-gun frigate, D�cade, which was added to the navy as a 12-pounder, 36-gun frigate.

1799 The replacement of long-guns by carronades meant that the D�cade, originally designed as a 38 gun frigate, was to be armed with additional carronades, making a total of 44 guns, thus making a nonsense of the current rating system.

1 Jan 1799 now at Plymouth.

7 May 1799 Plymouth, in dock.

13 Jun 1799 Captain James Wallis, late of the Proserpine, appointed to Decade, now fitting at Plymouth.

29 Jun 1799 Plymouth, commissioned.

20 Nov 1799 Plymouth, went up the harbour the Majestic, 74, to be paid off, and some of her men are reportedly being turned over to the Decade.

11 Dec 1799 Plymouth, went down to the Sound.

22 Dec 1799 Plymouth, to victual for foreign service.

27 Dec 1799 Plymouth, orders came down from the Admiralty for the Decade, and Santa Margarita, to repair to Cork the first fair wind, to convoy the outward bound West India fleet collecting at that port, and to convoy them to a certain latitude. La Decade is to proceed to Port Royal, Jamaica.

28 Dec 1799 Plymouth, hard frost, departed for Cork.

9 Nov 1800 arrived Port Royal with the loss of her main top mast, and 3 men from the top, and the Lark almost totally dismasted in the recent gales. Off Morant Bay she fell in with a foreign schooner bound for Port Royal with 60,000 dollars on board, which she took on board for the sake of safety and security, the foreign vessel arriving later the same day.

The Decade, Capt Rutherford was at Jamaica when the packet Lady Hobart arrived on 11 Nov 1800, but had departed Jamaica prior to the departure of the Lady Hobart on 8 Dec 1800.

29 Jan 1801 the packet Princess Amelia arrived Port Royal, Jamaica, from Martinique and whilst there the Surprise, Le Decade, Tisiphone, and Swallow arrived from their cruises, and the Melampus with two Spanish prizes.

26 Jul 1802 orders came down this day for the following ships to proceed for Portsmouth, to be paid off, on their arrival from the West Indies, if they should put in here, Plymouth, by contrary winds : Leviathan, flag-ship, Excellent, Magnificent, Cumberland, Audacious, Goliath, Ganges, and Elephant, 74 each, Severn, 44, Emerald, 36, Decade, 44, Venus ,36, Andromeda, 36, Castor, 32, Heureux, 14, and Drake, 18.

21 Sep 1802 arrived off Plymouth Sound the Decade, 44, and Ceres, 28, from the Windward Islands.

25 Sep 1802 arrived Plymouth a few days since from Jamaica, had only one days provisions on board, with the same quantity of water, being so long on her passage.

28 Sep 1802 arrived Spithead the Decade, from the West Indies.

29 Sep 1802 came into Portsmouth harbour his Majesty's ships Tromp and Decade.

12 Oct 1802 the Decade frigate, Captain Rutherford, was paid off at Portsmouth, and laid up in ordinary.

10 Mar 1803 the following frigates in ordinary at Portsmouth: the Alarm, Andromeda, Galatea, Topaze, Decade and Seahorse are to be inspected and if found in a fit state for service are to be fitted for commissioning.

Circa 27 Jun 1803 Capt Rutherford, apptd to the Decade, at Portsmouth.

Circa 3 Aug 1803 departed Portsmouth harbour for Spithead.

4 Aug 1804 embarked a company of Artillery, and ammunition for Guernsey.

5 Aug 1803 departed Spithead with a company of artillery for Guernsey.

Circa 27 Aug 1803 has sent into Portsmouth the Fortun�e galliot, with salt, from off Havre, prize to the Decade.

3 Oct 1803 it is reported at Portsmouth that the Volanto, bound from Havre to Lisbon, as arrived Portsmouth, a prize to the Decade.

23 Nov 1803 due to the gales blowing in the Channel the Tribune, and Decade, were blown off Havre, and anchored at St Helen's last night.

26 Nov 1803 returned to her station.

30 Nov 1803 departed Spithead, the Decade, Capt Rutherford, for off Havre.

26 Dec 1803 arrived Spithead from her station off Havre.

30 Dec 1803 departed Spithead for her station off Havre, the weather now being a little more settled.

20 Jan 1804 arrived Spithead from off Havre.

5 Feb 1804 departed Spithead, on a cruise, the Decade, Capt Rutherford, for off Havre.

24 Apr 1804 arrived Spithead from off Cherbourg.

9 May 1804 departed Spithead on a cruise off Cherbourg.

Circa 9 Jun 1804 the Prospero, Capt C Jones, has returned to Spithead from off Cherburgh, where she found it impossible to attack 35 French gun vessels, since they were so defensively moored under the batteries at Cape Barfleur, where they'd been driven by the Tribune, Decade and Hydra, and was obliged to retire.

10 Jul 1804 arrived Spithead from off Cherbourg.

21 Jul 1804 departed Spithead for a cruise off Cherbourg.

21 Nov 1804 arrived Spithead from off Cherbourg.

22 Dec 1804 departed Spithead for a cruise off Cherbourg.

22 Mar 1805 To Mediterranean

10 May 1805 has joined Nelson's fleet prior to sailing for the West Indies.

15 May 1805 arrived Madeira : and Barbadoes 4 Jun with news that the French fleet was in the West Indies : was joined by the Spartiate : 13th arrived Antigua and departed for Europe.

17 Jul 1805 arrived off Cape St.-Vincent.

21 Aug 1805 D�cade, from off Cadiz, departed to England with R.-adm Sir R Bickerton, to recover his health.

19 May 1806 departed from Plymouth as part of a squadron under R.-adm Sir R J Strachan to cruise off Madeira and the Canary islands. 8 Aug arrived Barbadoes. 18 Aug. having departed the squadron was separated by a gale.
