31 Mar 1842 taken into dock to be coppered. Has been commissioned by Cdr BJ Sulivan and it is planned, at this early stage, that she'll be used as a survey vessel with a complement of 80 men.

31 Mar 1842 per the Hampshire Telegraph, the Philomel was launched today and not 28 March 1842.

16 Jun 1842 in Plymouth Harbour.

9 Jul 1842 at Plymouth preparing to depart for the Falkland Isles.

12 Jul 1842 arrived in the Barnpool to be paid an advance of wages in a day or so in preparation for her departure shortly for the Falkland Isles, where it is planned that she'll start a survey.

16 Jul 1842 departed Plymouth to survey the Falkland Isles.

30 Jul 1842 arrived Santa Cruz from Plymouth.

6 Sep 1842 departed Rio de Janeiro with the Talbot, for the Falkland Isles, the Talbot en route for Cape Horn.

11 Oct 1847 detained the Spanish slave schooner Atrevida, which was sent for adjudication to the British and Spanish Mixed Court of Justice, Sierra Leone, and on 8 Dec 1847 sentenced to be condemned. 25 Apr 1849 the proceeds arising due for payment.

14 Jan 1848 the Dart and Philomel detained the slave felucca Name unknown, supposed Wandering Jew, 49 tons, which was sent for adjudication at the Vice-Admiralty Court at Sierra Leone and was condemned. 26 Dec 1849 the proceeds arising due for payment.

2 May 1848 detained the slave vessel Aurora, which was sent for adjudication to the Vice-Admiralty Court at Sierra Leone, and sentenced to be condemned. 26 Dec 1849 the proceeds arising due for payment.

28 Jul 1848 ordered to keep Loanda on a bearing of west 50 or 60 miles, on information received relative to a slaver's movements.

11 Mar 1849 detained in lat. 7� 0' S., lon. 12� 12' E., the slave schooner Astucio, Joz� Antonio da Silva master ; she was condemned by the Vice-Admiralty Court at St. Helena, 559 slaves were originally embarked, 538 slaves were eventually emancipated. 3 Dec 1850, respective proportions of balance of proceeds and slave and tonnage bounties for the slave schooner Astucio due to be paid.

9 May 1850 detained in lat. 10� 30' S. Long. 14� 18' W., the slave schooner Nova Especulacao, with 241 slaves on board, Luis dos Santos Kanna, master ; she was condemned on 29 Jun 1850, by the Vice-Admiralty Court at Sierra Leone, 115 slaves were eventually emancipated.

24 Jun 1850 detained in lat. 5� 2' S. Long. 11� 53' E., the Brazilian slave schooner Condor.

7 Jan 1852 spoke with the Sampson at Whydah.

21 Mar 1854 arrived off the River Congo and found the USS Perry watching a suspicious merchant vessel Mellidon, which had previously been boarded by this vessel and found to be flying the US flag.

22 Mar 1854 The Perry departed the river for Loanda being low on water and provisions, leaving an officer, a boat and her crew to watch the Mellidon.

27 Mar 1854 the Mellidon dropped down river and was detained by the boat from the Perry, with the assistance of two whalers from the Philomel. It would appear however, for reasons not stated here, that the Mellidon was released, since she was eventually detained on 1 May by the Linnet and she was condemned at St. Helena on 25 May 1854.

25 Aug 1854 detained and destroyed off Shark's Point in the River Congo, when bound from Ambriz, to Bananas a slave felucca, Name Unknown, which case was sent for adjudication to the Vice-Admiralty Court at St. Helena, and on 26 Oct 1854 sentenced to be condemned.

28 Aug 1854 off shark's Point, River Congo, having heard reports of a schooner being built for the slave trade and have sent the pinnace and whale-boat to see if the is any truth in the stories.

21 Sep 1854 detained in lat. 7� 42' S., long. 12� 45� E., the English brigantine Newport, Charles Philip Hocquard, master, bound from London, to Ambriz, being of opinion that she was concerned in the Slave Trade, inasmuch as she had on board 100 large casks, for which the Master had no special certificate from the Custom-house at the port in England where she cleared outwards, to permit her to carry them. Has been sent to the Vice-Admiralty Court at St. Helena for adjudication and on 20 Nov 1854 the vessel and her cargo was sentenced to be forfeited and her owners were fined �12,915.

24 Sep 1854 off Loanda in communication with the British Commissioner ashore, seeking advice regarding the slave trade.
