MY JAMES FAMILY

My research into my mother's paternal family history has taken me back to 1762 in Breage via St Erth and Fraddam in Gwinear.


William James married Elizabeth Harvey in Breage Church on 17 NOV 1762
(Both William and Elizabeth made their mark while one of the witnesses, Edward James junior signed his name)
(William was buried in Breage on either 17 OCT 1781 or 19 NOV 1781 or 1 OCT 1783 aged 43 or 10 JAN 1789 aged 52)
(Elizabeth James of Carlean was buried on 7 JUN 1821 in Breage aged 81)

I believe Peggy gave birth to Josiah James in 1823 as they are both living with James and Grace in Greenland, St Erth in 1841. There is a christening record for a Josias James on 20 JUL 1823 in Ruan Major. Father is Js Simmons. Mother is Margaret.
In 1851 Peggy is aged 52 and working as a Servant to Thomas Gundry on Bosworgey Farm, St Erth
In 1871 Margaret is aged 70 and housekeper for James and Graces children in Bosworgey, St Erth.
Margaret was buried in Breage on 23 NOV 1872

In 1901 she is aged 70 and living with her sister Margaret in Wilgarne, near Taskus, Gwinear.
Grace died on 17 OCT 1902 in Fraddam. Left £69 0s 11d in her Will to her sister Margaret.

In 1871 William is the Head of the Family, aged 34. He was working as a Miner and the family were living in Bosworgie, St Erth.
Died from chronic bronchitis and an enlarged liver on 13 JUN 1876, aged 41. At the time he was living in Fraddam, Gwinear. Buried in Breage on 18 JUN 1876.

In 1911 she is aged 56 ! and living on her own in Wheal Garne, Gwinear (between Fraddam and Nomansland)
Margaret died on 6 MAY 1913. Buried in Breage.

Benjamin James married Louisa Smitham in St Erth Church on 14 SEP 1871
(in 1881 Benjamin is aged 38 and a Copper Miner. Louisa is aged 42. The family are living in a cottage in Fraddam, Gwinear)
(Benjamin died of a gastric ulcer on 24 JUN 1882 in Fraddam. Buried in Breage)
(In 1891 Louisa is a Widow aged 53. The family are living in Fraddam, Gwinear)
(In 1901 Louise is aged 63 and living in the Parish of Gwinear)
(Louisa died of Apoplexy in St Erth Praze on 4 NOV 1909. Buried in Gwinear)
