Henry V. Bohm, Ypsilanti, Michigan   *already on GENI

Henry V. Bohm, Professor Emeritus of Physics at Wayne State University, passed away quietly in his sleep at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan, February 4, 2011, at the age of 81. After a wonderful rousing celebration for his 80th birthday, his health had been declining at a steady pace, but he felt that he had lived a long a happy life among his family and friends, the last couple of years on happily borrowed time.

1950 - Henry Victor Bohm and Lucy Margaret CoonsHenry Bohm was born in Vienna, Austria. He came to the United States with his family in 1941. He attended the Northfield Mount Herman School where he met his future wife, Troy, New York native Lucy M. Coons. He did his undergraduate work at Harvard, his graduate work at the University of Illinois, and his P.H.D. work at Brown University. He married Lucy in 1950 and served in the United States Navy and the Reserves where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

The Bohm Family came to the Detroit Metro Area toward the end of 1959 when Dr. Bohm a position in the Department of Physics at Wayne State University doing research, teaching. Along with earning his full professorship, Dr. Bohm served at different times as Chair of the Dept., V. P. for Graduate Studies & Research, V.P. for special Projects, Provost, Dean of Faculties, Dean of the College of Liberal Art. He was instrumental in the construction of the new physics building in the 1960s.

Henry is survived by his sister Maria Bohm Jacobson, his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Elaine, his daughter Victoria, his brother-in-law Donald A.M. Mackay, his sister-in-law Diane Coons DeMille, his cousins Pat Bohm Trosle and her family, Barbara Bohm Becker and her family, John Rie and his family, and one dozen nieces and nephews and their families. He will be buried in the family plot in Troy, New York next to Lucy, his wife of fifty-three years who pre-deceased him in 2003. Donations may be made to the Henry V.
