 WORLD WAR I, 1914-1918
Goto FOPC© US Soldiers at War!  The majors powers of Europe, had been fighting since the defeat of France by Prussia in 1870-71. On 28th June 1914 the Archduke FRANCIS FERDINAND, was assassinated, with his wife, by GAVRILLO PRINCIP This had little or no meaning to the 36 year old Fred LATTY raising his family in Washington Twp., Jackson Co., MO., but for the next 3 years there were conflicts between France, Russia, Great Britain, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Italy. When Pres. WILSON declared War on Germany on Feb. 28, 1917.

Goto FOPC© US Government Wants You!  U.S. Draft Registrations
The United States was initially determined to remain neutral as war erupted across Europe. However, pressure mounted as German U-boats attacked and sank ships carrying U.S. citizens and then attempted to persuade Mexico to attack the United States. On April 6, 1917, the U.S. joined WWI and soon held the first of three draft registrations in which more than 24 million U.S. men would register for the draft.  The United States had more than 4.7 million service members serving worldwide during WWI. More than 50,000 American lives were lost during battle, with some 200,000 non-mortal woundings.
