"John Ewen McLean, who had served as a sergeant in Company E of the 29th Georgia Volunteer Infantry, better known as the Ochlockonee Light Infantry. --- survived the war but died on September 17, 1865. John was buried with Masonic rites and the Masons inserted a note in the local paper praising him. According to the Thomasville Southern Enterprise, he was a casualty of the war because "the disease which caused his death had its origin in his campaign exposures." "
