From the book "Nelson" by Carola Oman, first published 1947, re-published by the Reprint Society Ltd 1950 Reference is made to a Mr and Mrs Thomas Pollard of Leghorn - "Nelson haunted the house of the Pollards, Levant merchants, and together with Mr Udney, British Consul, often agents for prizes taken by the fleet" "The Pollards were just in time to get on board a French Prize, with the best of their furniture and little Hoste, whom Mrs Pollard had been nursing through malaria." "The Pollards, also refugees from Leghorn were now struggling to establish themselves at Baples and Mrs Pollard had sent Commordore Nelson her kind remembrances, and large box of Neapolitan native ware which he like, and an aggrieved message."

Note : POLLARD, GEORGE, Salem, died about 1646. WILLIAM, Boston 1644, had sons, William, member of the ar. co. 1679, who d. 1690; John, b. 1644, and Samuel, b. 1645. A great number of the name in N. E. are descended from Thomas Pollard, the son of William Pollard, of the city of Coventry, England, and who came over at the close of the 17th century, m. Sarah, daughter of Edward Farmer, and d. 4 April, 1724, leaving 10 sons and 4 daughters.

THOMAS POLLARD also settled upon a farm bordering on the river, about one-half mile above the Colburn place.He was son of Thomas and Sarah Pollard, of BIllerica, who had ten sons and five daughters.

These boundaries excluded all of that part of Pelham--nearly one-third--
formerly included in the district of Nottingham, with about twenty
families by the names of Butler, Hamblet, Baldwin, Gage, Gibson,
Nevens, Douglass, Richardson and Spalding, and included a part of the
south part of Litchfield, as before bounded, about one mile wide on
the Merrimack, but less at the east end, with Nathaniel Hills,
William Taylor, Henry Hills, Joseph Pollard, James Hills, Ezekiel Hills,
John Marsh Jr., Thomas Marsh, Henry Hills Jr., Samuel Hills,
Nathaniel Hills Jr., and some other inhabitants.
Note: Also there is a mention of a Pollard's ferry ,on the Merrimack river between Lowell and Amoskeag though they were one of three operating in this vicinity . a bridge was finally built in 1826 -27 ./ John Pollard as one of those who petitioned the General Court for the incorporation of a library, NOTTINGHAM WEST SOCIAL LIBRARY--In 1797 .

An order of Bromfield Parish being exhibited by Ambrose Powell and Martin Nalle, gentlemen of the vestry of said parish, to join them in the division of the two parishes, it is ordered that the same lie for the further consideration of the vestry. From this entry it would seem that although the two parishes had been separated for ten years, the parish lines had not been run. Dec. 18th, 1762,at a vestry at Little Fork Church the usual routine business was gone through, and Henry Field and Benjamin Roberts made churchwardens for the ensuing year.

William P. Pollard was born in Dorchester, Grafton County, N.H., Sept. 4, 1823. His father, David Pollard, was born in 1776, and was among the first to settle in the forests of New Hampshire. He was a blacksmith by trade, and manufactured knives and forks, etc., by hand. His wife, Sarah Pollard, nee Gale, was a native of New Hampshire. They had a family of eighteen children, of whom fourteen lived to be adults. William lived on his father's farm until his fifteenth year, when the latter became insolvent, and he and his brothers supported the family, buying a farm, which they paid for on time. When seventeen years old he began to work on the Northern New Hampshire Railroad, and engaged in overseeing different roads in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, and helped lay the first rails out of Burlington, N. H. In 1854 he came West, arriving in Clayton County May 6 of that year. He resided in Lodomillo Township until 1870, then removed to Linn County, Ia.; returning to Lodomillo Township two seasons later. He was married in New York in 1852, to Diana Walton, who was born in Ithica, that State. They have had four children--Ada, Walter, Lyle A. and Edna D. Mr. Pollard owns a finely cultivated farm on section 32, and is one of the enterprising farmers of the county. In politics he is a Republican, and is a member of the Temple of Honor, and Good Templar's societies. He has held various offices of trust, and has been Justice of the Peace for the past twenty years. History of Clayton County, Iowa, 1882, p. 900-901
