ARCHIBALD ENGLISH, eleventh child of James and Elizabeth English, was born 1811 in Tennessee.  He came to Texas before he was 17 years of age, therefore he was ineligible to take out land grants.  After his mother, Elizabeth English, arrived in Texas about 1830, a widow, she applied for a land grant.  After proper procedures the land was granted her, File384, Abstract 2340.  She   had the land transferred to Archibald English, a minor son.  Archie married MARY TEAGUE, after 1935.  This is verified by his Certificate Card at the General Land Office lists him as a single man in 1835.  He owned land in Shelby County and Houston County.   He was Land Commissioner in Houston County.  Archie and his brother John were active in getting a new two story school building in the Pleasant Grove Community.   They were also active members in the Masonic Lodge.  The new school was built in 1857 and the Masonic  Lodge met on the second floor.  To the union of Archie and Mary English were born Miranda, Elizabeth, and Elisha English.
